A periodic round up of some of the rare and interesting vintage guitars for sale on the web just now: guitars, hard to find parts, catalogs and guitar memorabilia . Anything interesting that catches our eye - maybe a typically expensive guitar going for a great price - something that very rarely comes up, or even just an item with a great story. Got a suggestion for this page? let us know - you can promote your own stuff; if you tell us why it's interesting, it's more likely to be included.

This is a really interesting guitar. Built by Chuck Burge of the new Gibson Research and Development department in Kalamazoo in 1977. He made three examples, each with a different body thickness, but the marketing department decided it would be too expensive, so it never went into production. It sold to LaVonne Music in 1980 where it has sat untouched ever since. So we have a unique, new-old-stock Gibson electric acoustic. How much better does it get? You can read more about this guitar, plus Chuck's description of how and why he made it here. Totally rare, utterly beautiful, and functionally unique. It's listed at $8500, which seems a fair price for such a special guitar, and a unique piece of Gibson history.
Edit: now sold!
The Harmony Stratotone was available in several variants from 1958 and into the mid 1960s, all with suitably stratospheric names. This rather nice example, with dual pickups and natural blonde top was named Stratotone Jupiter, or H49. It was a solid body, but chambered for lightness. Made in Chicago, these are natural blues guitars; it's no wonder Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones got hold of one (actually a sunburts Stratotone Mars) early in his career. This guitar appears to be in beautiful condition. The finish looks great, and all parts seem to be present and correct. There are clearly a few screws that have been changed, and the bridge saddle has been lowered so that the posts extend through the rosewood. But it is a great looking guitar!
Best of all, the guitar has a £1 start price, so the market will find the value. The last one sold on eBay UK reached £950, and that could still be considered a bit of a bargain. See it on ebay.co.uk
