The Hofner 500/1 violin bass is probably the best known of all Hofner guitars, thanks to Beatle Paul McCartney who used several of these bases throughout his career. The hang-tag image shown here had been included in Selmer catalogues, unchanged, from as early as September 1964; but by 1971 McCartney was no longer the fresh-faced mop-topped Beatle on the image, and in fact the Beatles had actually split up as a group. But no mind, the Violin bass remained popular, and remained in Selmer price lists until at least September 1973.
The image below had been in use since the 1968 Selmer catalogue and shows the Hofner bar pickups that very much defined 1970s Violin bass production.
The world's most famous bass, the Hofner violin bass, as used by Beatle Paul McCartney. Fitted with two Hofner, high–efficiency, bar pick–ups and flick–action switches for instant tone change, this guitar is a favourite with many groups for its powerful, rich tonal quality. A superb instrument for today's modern players. Attractive brunette sunburst finish.
