The Hofner Ambassador was first included in the September 1965 Selmer catalogue fitted with 511 Nova-Sonic 'staple' pickups. The 1967 Selmer catalogue used the same image but described the new 513 bar pickup (whilst introducing the Ambassador Deluxe with De Armond pickups).
The image below is the first Selmer catalogue to actually show the Ambassador with the bar pickup equipped. But it was also the final appearance of the Ambassador in any Selmer catalogue.
The Ambassador is the outcome of Hofner's, many successful years of guitar making. Only experience and craftsmanship can produce such quality at an economical price. All the well-proven and exclusive Hofner features open "Slenda–nek" cambered rosewood fingerboard, adjustable truss-rod, Micro-matic bridge for fine tuning. Now with two new Hofner, high–efficiency bar pick–ups.
Rich golden sunburst finish. All this adds up to one of the most the most exciting models ever to leave the Hofner workshops.
The suggested case for the Hofner Ambassador was shaped-case 5906 (see cases, page 44).
