Page 26 starts a new section of this brochure, detailing three solid body Hofner guitars (HS-174, HS-175, HS-4579) and one bass (HS-186). Hofner solid body guitars of the 1960s can not really be described as derivative of other models (although they did get Stratier as the decade progressed), however these early seventies guitars are another matter entirely. The HS-174 a clear copy of the Gibson SG, the HS-175 (not pictured) a copy of the Fender Telecaster, the HS-186 a copy of the Telecaster bass, and the HS-4579 a copy of the Gibson Les Paul Custom. And these were pretty good imitations. Not only did Hofner reproduce the look of these guitars, but also much of the construction: woods, finish, neck attachment etc — resulting in some fine guitars indeed. They were never known as a Hofner SG, Hofner Les Paul or Hofner Telecaster, but effectively that is what they are.
The HS-4579 was described as follows:
Black ivory varnished, attractively purfled in white. Fast slimline low action neck with full mother-of-pearl inlay. All metal heavy duty machine heads. Two powerful, sensitive pick-ups. Two volume and two tone controls, mixable. Flick action switch.
