This page shows two Les Paul guitars, the Les Paul Custom (in Ebony finish) and Les Paul De Luxe (Gold Top) replacing the Les Paul Standard - see the Les Pauls in the 1968 Selmer catalogue.
The Les Paul De Luxe is described as follows:
This beautiful solid body, Les Paul guitar incorporates many unusual Gibson features. Gold-finished carved maple top, mahogany body and neck with Les Paul name on peghead. Combination bridge and tailpiece is another Gibson first. Tailpiece can be moved up or down to adjust tension. Tune-O-Matic bridge permits adjusting string action and individual string lengths.
Graceful cutaway design with ivoroid binding around top. Bound rosewood fingerboard with pearloid inlays. Two powerful humbucking pick-ups with Alnico magnets and individually adjustable polepieces, for power, greater sustaining, and reduced hum from electrical disturbances. Separate tone, and volume control for each pick-up, which can be preset to any desired quality. Toggle switch to activate either or both pick-ups. Nickel-plated individual machine heads with de luxe buttons and metal fittings.
