This page details two Gibson solid body 'SG' electric bass guitars available from Selmer: the dual pickup Gibson EB3 and the single pickup Gibson EB0. The difference between these two bass guitars went a little beyond pickups: the EB3 was also equipped with varitone circuitry, giving a wider range of tones than the pickups alone could offer.
As is consistently the case in all 1960s Selmer catalogs, the Gibson images are a few years out of date. The EB-3 image shows the bass as produced in 1961/62, but is the same image Selmer were using as early as 1963 (see the 1963/1964 Selmer catalog) and as late as 1971. By late 1968/1969 these basses would have a narrower metal pickup cover, intonatable tune-o-matic bridge, with cover, centered crown headstock inlay, and (in the case of the EB3) closer spaced controls. Actually the EB0 image has been replaced since earlier catalogs, but still shows a bass with out of date features, most likely circa 1963.
One interesting feature in this image is the unusual varitone knob on the EB3 bass - one not seen in any US publicity. Perhaps this was fitted by Selmer due to a loss or break? Or even a deliberate choice? Note also the incorrect (not that it matters!) orientation of the hand rest of the EB0. These are small details, but underline the fact that Selmer seem to have produced their own images for these catalogs, rather than being supplied them directly from Gibson.
