The dual pickup Hofner President and single-pickup Hofner Senator guitars (along with several other models) changed somewhat in the summer of 1965, each having a new body style: the President remained a single cutaway, but in the sharper Florentine style of the Verithin 66 and Ambassador. The Senator, by contrast, had always been a non-cutaway model, but now had the same Venetian cutaway of the pre-1965 President (or, indeed, the Senator bass), naturally improving access to the upper frets. It should be noted that these changes were not immediately applied to the non-electric versions of these guitars (see pages 12 and 13 respectively), but have been by the time of the next Selmer catalog of 1968/69.
Both models were available in Blonde or Brunette (sunburst) finish, and as a full body depth or thinline model. This depth difference can be seen in the images below: the President has the thin body, the Senator the full 3" body.
At just 34 gns., the Senator was the cheapest electric-acoustic offered by Selmer in 1966.
