John E. Dallas & Sons was a UK musical instrument distributor with a history covering the entire 20th century - though the company changed names several times over the years. The brand Jedson (J E Dallas and sons) was first applied to banjos in the 1930s, but was revived for guitars in the late 1960s and 1970s - these were mostly student and intermediate models produced in Japan - by a range of different manufacturers to fit different price points including Kawai (the Telecaster copies), Matsumoku (4444 Jet), Terada (acoustics?) and possibly more. Some are clearly a lot better than others - the original prices in the table below give an indication of which guitars are better than others (though do bear in mind the date).
The 1971 Dallas Arbiter catalogue pronounced their Jedson range:
Dallas Arbiter are pleased to introduce the new range of Jedson acoustic and solid guitars and basses. For many years, the name of has been associated with low price, top quality instruments.
Although not manufactured in our own factory, this range of fine instruments are constructed to DA. specifications and can be counted on to be very much more detailed in their finish, design and sound than many others which are available. Special instructions to the manufacturers in regard to pick ups, fingerboards and string action, have now enabled them to produce instruments and guitarist would be proud to own.
