The 459VTZ was described as follows:
The tremendous worldwide popularity of the Hofner Beatle Bass demanded a guitar with similar body shape, weight and playing qualities. Hofner was equal to the challenge and developed this new instrument truly worthy of top musicians. Hofner original features include the violin shape of Paul McCartney's bass, transistor-powered built-in flip-fuzz and treble boost, special needle bearing smooth vibrato, spring loaded machine heads for ultra-fine tuning and new microphone pickups with the highest degree of evenness, sensitivity and solid projection. Electronic circuit includes 4 controls for adjustment of volume, tone, treble and fuzz: a pickup selector switch; a treble and fuzz selector; a treble and fuzz push on-off switch. Finished in shaded brown with arched spruce top and maple back.
1967 prices quoted for these instruments were as follows: 459TZ $395; 459VTZ $435; G459TZ $530; and G459VTZ $575
