This page shows two large body (17" wide) Guild Jazz electric acoustic guitars, the X-500 and Artist Award. These are both very high end models, already with long production runs behind them. Naturally these were very expensive guitars: in June 1975 these were listed at $900 and $1100 respectively. The Artist Award was a gorgeous guitar, with carved spruce top, floating pickup and controls, and gold plated hardware - however it was available solely on a custom order basis. It is pictured here in the hands of George Benson - although this image appears to be a few years old - see a similar shot in the 1968 Guild catalog. The X-500, though still available, had not been pictured in a Guild catalog since 1969, it's place being taken in the early 1970s by the Duane Eddy DE-500.
The best of both-in one extraordinary instrument. Complete electric/acoustic versatility with its Guild-developed custom suspended pick-up. The solid carved spruce top, 5-piece neck and luxury appointments of the Artist Award can be found on few other instruments. Its tone communicates to your audience just how warm a jazz guitar can sound
