The Guild X-701 (and X-702) were bass guitar equivalents to the Guild X-79 six string electric guitar. Unlike a lot of the more generic-looking Guild guitars of the early 1980s, the X-79/X-701 were pretty extreme in terms of design, and perfect for the early eighties metal scene. The single pickup X-701 was, functionally, very similar to the Guild SB-201, or even the Guild B-301 - although very different in appearance. All were equipped with a single DP-8 single coil pickup, BT-4 bass bridge, and typical Guild set-neck construction.
