The Flying V was issued and subsequently deleted numerous times between 1958 and the late 1970s, at which point it was replaced by the V2. But there was always demand for the original; the promo sheet shown here heralds the arrival of the Heritage Flying V, a comparatively accurate reissue, right down to the Korina body and neck wood. It had a rosewood fretboard, gold hardware throughout, PAF humbucker pickups, body-through stringing with tune-o-matic bridge, and the original style peghead with 17° pitch.
Now the guitar that reshaped rock and roll is on the wing again, with all the original features - from a Korina wood body to gold-plated hardware - that made it one of the most sought-after collector's items in music history
The original Flying V was included in Gibson price lists from June 1982 as the Flying V Heritage at $999 (Ebony, Ivory) or $1099 for Antique Natural finish.
