Production of the Victory MV guitars started in the middle of 1981, with the first instruments completed early in the second half of that year. This pre-owners manual, also from the second half of '81 was one of the first pieces of publicity material produced for the range.
Gibson had taken a novel approach to guitar catalogues, stepping away from glossy catalogues, and instead creating a range (initially 10) of pre-owners folders, one for each segment - and filled with separate single page inserts for each specific model. This system had the advantage of allowing models to be added or deleted from any series cheaply and easily.
The Victory MV guitar folder contains two inserts: one for the Victory MV2 and one for the Victory MVX. Dimensions 8 3/4" x 4".
The early 1980s Gibson Victory MV (Multi Voice) guitars were the twin pickup MV2 and the three pickup MVX. In some ways these can be considered in the same vein as the L-6S and RD, in that all had the same basic construction (rock maple body and set neck) with 'state-of-the-art' electronics. In fact the electronics were quite different in each case being designed by different people (Bill Lawrence, L6-S; Bob Moog, RD; and Tim Shaw, Victory), but each was an attempt to produce as wide a tonal range as possible.
The 1981 pre-owners guides are some of the earliest Gibson publicity material to feature the Nashville rather than Lincolnwood postal address on their back cover.
