In contrast to the close out Explorers (Explorer, Explorer II) in this folder, this insert details a limited edition / test marketing guitar, The Explorer - see the inside cover for more about close outs and experimental guitars. In some ways, The Explorer blends the best of these two models, and brings it screaming into the 1980s: the lightweight mahogany body and neck of the Explorer, matched with the high output Dirty Fingers humbuckers, and fine tuning TP6 tailpiece of the Explorer II. The look is completed with a figured maple veneer top with bound body edges - just like The V and the Firebird II.
This short lived model was only included in 1982 and 1983 price lists, with a tag of $999 (the same as the Firebird II and The V). Only Antique Sunburst and Antique Cherry Sunburst finishes are listed here, but in price lists this was expanded to include Antique Natural.
