The Gibson Explorer II was produced from 1979, and like the Flying V II had an attractive maple/walnut body, highlighted by its High Gloss Natural finish. As with the inserts for the Flying V II and Explorer, this sheet was promoting a close out model, last included in the July 1980 price list at $1149.
The text here is a direct reproduction of the specifications given on page 27 of the 1980 Gibson catalog. Generally, the neck is described as a five piece maple/walnut laminate, though here (and in the 1980 catalog) it is described as 5-piece curly solid maple and mahogany - most likely in error, (although it is impossible to say that mahogany was never used in place of walnut). Certainly, specifications for its companion model, the Flying V II did not change to mahogany at the same time.
