The final page in the Les Paul section shows two models, the very well-known Gibson Les Paul Standard and a newer model, the Les Paul XR-2, making it's only UK catalog appearance. This model is quite unlike any other Les Paul: less frills but extra functionality. It features a laminate mahogany body with maple top - but the maple top is not carved as in higher end models. A three-piece maple neck, with rosewood fingerboard and dot neck position inlays. It is fitted with mini-humbuckers without adjustable pole pieces, but is fitted with a coil tap switch.
The XR-2 was the least expensive guitar in the Les Paul series. These two instruments were priced in the UK as follows: Les Paul XR-2 £640; Les Paul Standard £739.
The examples shown are in Tobacco Sunburst (Les Paul Standard) and Vintage Cherry Sunburst (Les Paul XR-2) finishes.
