Gibson 1980 guitar and bass catalog. Page 63. Details of the Sonex-180 Deluxe. At this time the Sonex-180 series was available to a wider range of dealers than other Gibson guitars. Gibson circumvented the dealer exclusivity arrangements by changing the headstock label to "Gibson Guitar co.", rather than the just "Gibson".
Other guitars in the Sonex-180 series are the Standard, on the previous page, and the Custom on page 61.
Only a semi-gloss Ebony finish was listed, although traditional Gibson high-gloss finishes were available from mid 1981.
The July 1980 US list price for the Sonex-180 Deluxe was $299 - the most inexpensive guitar produced by Gibson at this time.
