Gibson 1980 guitar and bass catalog. Page 56. Details of the short-lived The "SG" (Standard), part of the new Gibson Firebrand series. This guitar steered away from the traditional mahogany body/neck and rosewood fingerboard combination of the SG series having a walnut body and neck and ebony fingerboard. There was, of course, a Firebrand SG with the more usual mahogany body/neck, The "SG" (Deluxe) shown on page 59. Both models were fitted with new pickups, a "The SG" neck pickup (part 13075) and a Velvet Brick at the bridge.
In July 1980, the US list price for "The SG" Standard was $599, though by 1981 was no longer included in Gibson pricing sheets.
