Gibson 1980 guitar and bass catalog. Page 25. Details of the short-lived Flying V II. This was the first (and only) US Gibson catalog appearance of the Flying V2, in fact, the first catalog appearance of any Flying V since its inception and original appearance in the 1958 catalog. This is despite several reissues in the 1960s, and 1970s. It was, however, offered as a close out model in the 1981 Gibson Specials pre-owners folder, and pictured in international publicity, including the 1981 Gibson guitars, banjos and mandolins brochure produced by Rosetti for the UK market, and the 1981 Gibson booklet produced by Arai for the Japanese market.
The July 1980 US price for the Flying V II was $1299; the same price as the Les Paul Artist, and the most expensive solid body guitar at the time.
