Gibson 1980 guitar and bass catalog. Page 19. Details of the Les Paul Artist. This one of Gibsons early active guitars, fitted with the same bright mode and expansion/compression circuitry as the ES Artist and RD Artist. These were, of course, designed by Moog; at the time another Norlin company. It was launched in 1979, and this is its first, and only, catalog appearance, excluding a "close out" appearance in the 1981 Gibson Specials folder.
July 1980 US price for the Les Paul Artist was $1299; the (joint) most expensive solid body guitar; the Flying V II was also listed at $1299.
