Gibson 1976 bass catalog. The front cover artist is Peter Cetera of Chicago with the Gibson Ripper bass. This is a reprint of the 1975 bass catalog, updated and expanded a year later. Although some pages elsewhere in the catalog are updated from the 1975 print, this page is identical to the 1975 cover.
The Ripper was Gibson's best selling bass of 1976, with 2291 instruments shipped (both fretted and fretless); compared to 1630 Grabbers, 1359 G-3s, 383 EB3s and 57 EB0s.
The image is an early publicity shot showing the first Ripper body style; although very similar, it was subtly different from the examples in the photographs inside. Compare the larger more rounded horns of this picture (particularly the top horn) with the thinner horns of the two basses shown on page 5.
