1975 Gibson solid body catalog. Page 7. Right hand page of a double page spread on the L6-S Custom; but as this was before the launch of the L6-S Deluxe (just), the Custom designation was not yet being used. Two variants are shown here, both have an all-maple construction (body and neck), though only the model with natural finish has a maple fingerboard; the black model has a matching ebony fingerboard. This is in fact the first catalog appearance of the regular production model of the L6-S, though an early (prototype?) guitar is shown in the 1973 'Look ahead to Gibson' brochure.
From mid-1975 Tobacco Sunburst (with ebony fretboard) was offered as a finish option (with a $30 premium), too late for inclusion in this brochure - and although never mentioned in any catalog or price list, shipping figures suggest that 16 L6-Ss were also shipped in Cherry finish in 1975.
The January 1st 1975 Gibson price list gives the L6-S a price of $499.
