The L5-S was a very fine guitar indeed, beautifully made with an incredible attention to detail. The image here shows just how fine the neck was, with its abalone position inlays and multiple ply binding. It also had gold hardware throughout; this was the top-end of Gibson's solid body manufacturing, until they came up with the $3000 The Les Paul in 1976.
The fact still remains, nobody can make an instrument like Gibson
