Left hand page of a two-page spread. Details of the registered limited edition Gibson Citation electric acoustic guitar, continued on page 5.
The Citation was, without doubt, the finest guitar Gibson ever produced - with features such as a hand carved 'tuned' top - something only the companies most skilled luthiers could produce. The price for 1975 was $3749 (US zone 1) which was actually over twice the cost of the next most expensive Gibson, the still incredibly fine Super 400-CES at $1499.
Carved and hand graduated spruce top tuned to a precise pitch for maximum acoustical resonance
The short-lived Citation only appeared in two US Gibson catalogs, the 1970 Gibson Electric Acoustics catalog and this 1975 catalog. It is not surprising that this was the final catalog inclusion of the Gibson Citation - none were actually shipped in the years 1972-1978, despite taking pride of place in publicity material; with just one shipped in 1979. A very few Citations shipped beyond the seventies, most likely using up original parts.
