Gibson Guitar and Bass 1964 Guitar and Bass catalog. Page 3. Two more instantly recognisable Artist series guitars (continuing on from the Johnny Smith guitar on the previous page; the double-Florentine cutaway Barney Kessel and the 'scrolled' Tal Farlow. As the series name suggests, these guitars were developed with the cooperation of the artists themselves.
This was the first appearance of the Tal Farlow in a Gibson catalog, after it's launch at the '63 summer NAMM show - but it did only ever make one more - the guitar was included in the 1966 catalog, before ultimately facing deletion in 1967.
These were two high-end hollow body jazz guitars, produced by the Gibson custom instrument department in the Gibson plant, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
1964 US zone 1 prices were as follows: Tal Farlow $610. Barney Kessel Custom $625, Barney Kessel Regular $465.
