Gibson 1960 guitar and amplifier catalog. Page 15. The acoustic Electric Spanish series continues with three full-body archtops. From the very well-equipped, and very finely appointed ES-5 Switchmaster (three humbuckers, gold hardware, maple neck), to the classic non-cutaway, single P-90, mahogany-necked ES-125.
The Florentine cutaway ES-175 was available as a one, or two pickup guitar, and in sunburst or natural finish. Although the ES-175 was first fitted with humbuckers in 1958, this is the first catalog to illustrate it as such. In fact the 1958 catalog did describe the ES-175 as having humbuckers, but used an older image of a guitar with a P90.
In 1960, the number of these guitars shipped from the Kalamazoo plant were as follows: ES-125: 739; ES-175 687 (all variants); Switchmaster: 66. Production of the Switchmaster ceased in 1961, making this it's final catalog appearance.
1960 zone 1 US prices were as follows: ES-5 Switchmaster $495 ($525 Natural finish); ES-175 $249.50; ES-175D $310 ($325 Natural finish); ES-125 $159.50.
