Gibson 1958 electric guitars and amplifiers catalog, page 36. 1958 was an inovative year for Gibson, with several new models - two shown here are the Flying V and the thinline semi acoustic ES-335TD. Initial sales were less than amazing; in the period 1958-59 just 98 Flying Vs were shipped; although the 335 did a little better with 909 instruments. ES-335 sales stayed steady then improved into the mid 1960s. The Flying V was naturally discontinued. Despite several reissues in the mid 1960s and early 1970s, the Flying V never made it into an official Gibson catalog (although it was shown in a few distributor publications) until the Gibson V-II in the 1980 Gibson catalogue.
1958 zone 1 US prices: Flying V $247.50; ES-335T $267.50 ($282.50 natural finish).
