Gibson 1958 electric guitars and amplifiers catalog, page 14. Details of two Gibson bass guitars; the newly renamed EB1 (which had been available since 1953 as the EB or electric bass) and the newly launched EB2 making its first catalog appearance. The EB2 was a sister model to the ES-335TD which was also making its catalog debut in 1958 (see the back cover). This was to be the last fifties catalog appearance of the EB1 bass as production ceased in 1958. The EB2 continued until 1961, when it also was deleted. However Gibson reintroduced both models, albeit with a few minor changes; the EB2 sold well in the mid to late 1960s before a final deletion in 1971/72, whilst the EB1 had a brief reprise, almost entirely limited to 1970.
1958 prices for these basses were as follows: EB-1 $235; EB-2 $267.50 ($282.50 natural finish) - USA zone 1 prices.
