Promotional sheet, with specifications, for the Firebird III, published by Gibson in 1963. The Firebird III was the best selling of all the 1960s Firebird models. It was equipped with dual nickel-plated mini-humbucker pickups, each with a volume and tone control. The three-way pickup selector is situated on the guitars pickguard. The new style mahogany body with 'special construction' refers to the neck-through build of all reverse body Firebirds - in contrast to the usual set (glued) neck typical of Gibson guitars. The quoted list price of $249.50 was correct as of July-August 1963. The standard finish for all Firebird guitars was Sunburst nitrocellulose, however, custom finishes available at an additional $15 were Cardinal Red, Heather poly, Inverness Green poly, Ember Red, Polaris White, Pelham Blue poly, Frost Blue, Kerry Green, Silver Mist poly and Gold Mist poly.
The specifications for the reverse body Firebird III were: mahogany body, through mahogany neck, bound Brazillian rosewood fretboard with pearloid dot inlays. Nickel plated hardware, two mini humbuckers, each with volume and tone control. Three-way pickup selector switch. Gibson VSP-N vibrola (nickel plated). Sunburst nitrocellulose finish. 24 3/4" scale. 22 frets. TPBR-85N bar bridge / tailpiece. Sealfast MH-570T 12 to 1 banjo-style tuning keys. 'Gibson' celluloid truss rod cover. The Firebird III also comes with a leather strap.
