The 1972 Fender guitar and amp catalog is split into two sections for easy viewing. See the other section here: guitars, basses, steel guitars, mandolin & violin.
The early seventies were a time of some change for Fender amplifiers. Throughout the sixties, transistors had been replacing valves throughout the sphere of electronics, and most amplifier manufacturers, including Fender, were experimenting with new designs. But by the time of this 1972 catalog, the solid state revolution was over.
The solid state amplifier range had joined a larger selection of tube amps in the 1968 Fender catalog. These were not commercially sucessful, and were replaced with alternate models in the 1970 Fender catalog. Again, these did not sell and were last included in a Fender price list circa 1971.
A handful of new valve models are included here, but with the loss of the solid state models, the amplifier section only spans 20 pages - 7 less than that of the previous 1970 catalog.
The new amplifier models include three 100w combos with different speaker arrangements: the Quad Reverb (4 x 12"), Super Six Reverb (6 x 10"), and Vibrosonic Reverb (1 x 15"). And replacing the existing Bassman models, three new versions: the Bassman 50 and 100; 50w and 100w separate head/cabinet, and the 50w 4 x 10" Bassman Ten combo.
