Fender's very fine Hand Carved guitar, from the second catalog of the 1970s, pictured here in sunburst finish. This is exactly the same image as used in the 1970 catalog, likewise the price is unchanged in all price lists between April 1970 and the model's final inclusion in June 1973 at $1500-$1700, depending on finish and dexterity.
The hand carved was Fender's attempt at getting into the jazz guitar market; a move into Gibson and Guild territory. It was a very fine guitar with, as the name suggests, a beautiful hand-carved top; quite different in design from the typical Fender - but unable to attract enough attention to keep it available for the long term.
