Fender 1970 guitar and bass catalog. Page 7. Details of the Fender Telecaster. Pictured is a tele in blond finish, with the optional maple fretboard (actually a one-piece maple neck). There were numerous variations for the telecaster in 1970, with the standard model having a list price of between $283 and $435 (April 1970 US price list). Blond was the standard finish for the Telecaster, but for a few dollars more the body could be sunburst or one of the custom polyester finishes (shown on page 95), or even rosewood (the highest priced option). Additionally the standard rosewood fingerboard could be replaced with maple, and a tremolo added. Finally lefty models were higher still. The guitar pictured, standard finish with maple neck comes in at $295.
The Telecaster custom, although more highly appointed (body binding and a sunburst finish as standard) was priced between $315 and $378 - it still had an optional maple neck and custom colours although rosewood was not listed as a body wood for this model.
See page 8 for another variation on the Fender Telecaster, the semi-acoustic Telecaster thinline.
