Fender 1968 guitar and bass catalog. Page 18. Image of the Fender Coronado I, II and XII and Coronado Bass I and II. Left hand page of a two page spread, with specifications of the guitars pictured on the following page.
The Coronado series continues from the Wildwood Coronados on pages 16-17, and again includes the latest member of the series, the Coronado bass II. At the 1966 launch the Coronado series included just one bass, with a single pickup (just called Coronado bass - see the 1966-67 Fender catalogue) but with the addition of a second model this was renamed Coronado bass I, and the new model the Coronado bass II.
The Wildwood Coronado guitars were quite a lot more expensive than the regular sunburst, or even custom coloured examples. July 1968 prices for the Coronado range was as follows (base price, right-handed model with sunburst or cherry red finish): Coronado I $229.50, Coronado II $319.50 (Compare this to the Wildwood Coronado II, which was $449.50), Coronado Bass I $389.50, Coronado Bass II $449.50, Coronado XII $449.50.
The Coronado range could be ordered left-handed (add 10%), with custom DuPont finish (add 5%), with a maple fretboard (add 5% Coronado II and bass II only), or with a tremolo unit (add $55 Coronado I and II only). Some of these variations are shown in the catalog page below - note that the guitars with custom finish colours have a matching coloured headstock. Sunburst (and cherry red) guitars have a black headstock.
