In the early 1980s, a number of Epiphone's older models were reissued, using the original names, and (broadly) the original specifications. The Riviera of 1982 was produced by Aria at the Japanese Matsumoku facilities and looked quite like the 1960s Gibson Kalamazoo-made Riviera: it had the same body style, Frequensator tailpiece, parallelogram neck markers, and late sixties-style Epiphone headstock. The pickups, however, had no covers, just exposed cream bobbins.
One significant difference between this guitar and the other electric acoustic guitars in this series (see the 1982 Casino, Sheraton and Emperor guitars) is the neck; whilst those other models had a three-piece maple neck, the Riviera, uniquely, had three-piece mahogany - more like a late sixties Gibson... and whats more, the center block within the body itself was mahogany too - not the usual maple.
In September 1982, the list price was $629.95.
