Conrad was a guitar brand of American musical instrument distributor David Wexler of Chicago, Illinois. Conrad guitars, at least those made in the 1960s and 1970s were typically built by Matsumoku in Japan, and distributed via Aria. Matsumoku had a good reputation and their guitars were typically a cut above many of their rival Japanese manufacturers. It is no wonder, then, that so many musical instrument distributors worldwide were happy to stock Matsumoku-made guitars, including some pretty big ones like Norlin (Epiphone) and Gretsch (Dorado).
Matsumoku produced a number of different models, and any of these could be supplied with specific branding, finishes, body styles or levels of ornamentation. But many used the same basic hardware. It is quite common to see almost identical guitars with different headstock markings.
