This advert comes from a 1967 trade magazine summer NAMM show edition. It was a double page spread (see page 2 here). The very first Ovation guitars were launched at the show, in Chicago, where they proudly demonstrated their new range of guitars. Shown here are three round-backed Ovation acoustics: the Balladeer, the Classic, and the Josh White.
Here are six of the most handsome, most durably constructed and most tonally responsive guitars ever developed. They are the new Ovation round backs: the Balladeer, the Classic, the Josh White, the Deluxe Balladeer, the Contemporary Folk Classic and Twelve-String. All six of them will be on display at the NAMM show in Chicago in room 8828 at the Hilton.
The roundbacks are breakthrough guitars. They are the product of two years of research by scientists and engineers in one of the nation's foremost aerospace labs – Kaman aircraft.
Using advanced aerospace technologies, Kaman engineers studied the audio signatures of scores of standard guitars, and then compared them by oscillographic test with the signatures of original designs.
