The Guild M-80CS was launched in 1975 as a double cutaway version of the Guild M-75CS. This, in turn, descended from the semi-hollow M-75 Bluesbird. Hence M-80CS; C denoting chrome hardware and S denoting a solid body.
With its 24 3/4" scale, wide frets, mahogany body and neck and carved top, it was perhaps aimed at capturing some of Gibson's Les Paul market, hence "everything else you need in an efficient rock machine".
