The Pick a Winner advert was clearly aimed at the student and intermediate guitarists of 1968, promoting some new, and some established instruments in the hands of young players. The Mustang and Telecaster guitars had been in the Fender line for some time, but they were joined by bass equivalents in 1966 and 1968 respectively. Actually the Tele bass was so new, it did not make it into a Fender catalogue until 1969. One other new guitar (and amp) shown that did make the 1968 catalogue was the Bronco set: an entry-level guitar and amplifier set shown in the foreground of the image. The only acoustic shown is the Newporter.
